As Salaam Alaikum! May peace & blessings be upon you! My name is Sarena Rose Doucette and I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, Traditional Islamic Hijama Practitioner, Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, Autonomous Student Midwife & Professional Photographer/Film-maker. I was born by the harmful use of forceps which explains how I have now become a massage therapist & doula or birth-keeper. Throughout my life I was exposed to a diverse range of healers learning from their work with prayer, herbs, sound, art, energy, massage and ceremony. I became a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula through the East Bay Community Birth Support Project assisting families in Oakland who were homeless, recently incarcerated and otherwise without resources for healthy pregnancy and birth. I moved to El Paso in 2014 to continue this birth-work journey by studying under licensed midwives at Maternidad La Luz and Luna Tierra. I completed my massage therapy program through El Paso Community College where we were trained in Swedish massage, reflexology, prenatal, joint mobilization, hot stone and hydrotherapy. I embraced Islam as my way of life after walking into mosques in Oakland and feeling the warmth of people of every color and country present in one place loving one another as family. As Muslims, we remember that everyone on this earth is our brothers and sisters related to our first ancestor Adam. I am a humanitarian at heart and view birth-work, midwifery & healing as activism. As body workers, birth workers & healers, I believe it is our duty to weave justice, compassion, and love into our work. Recently my husband & I have joined together as Traditional Islamic Hijama Practitioners studying at Hijama Nation Academy, where we are practicing the art of dry & wet cupping in order to reverse serious health issues by removing the toxic blood trapped in the body. We are also medicine-makers of non-alcohol herbal tinctures & other herbal skin salves. I believe in natural birth and provide massage, healing sessions & photography through every stage of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
